Is SB175 enough for my winch?

It depends on your winch's rated pull, not just its size. Amp draw climbs fast under load — a winch pulls far more current recovering a stuck vehicle than its nameplate rating alone suggests.

  • Light-duty ATV/UTV winches (up to ~3,000lb pull): typically stay comfortably within 175A, even under load — SB175 is a good fit.
  • Mid-size winches (~4,500lb): can draw 180–240A at full rated pull — right at or beyond SB175's limit.
  • Full-size 4x4 recovery winches (9,000lb+): commonly draw 250–500A+ under load — you'll need a larger connector than we currently stock.

Always check your winch's own spec sheet for its actual amp draw, or get in touch and we'll help you work it out honestly — even if that means pointing you elsewhere for the winch circuit itself.

Works whatever winch brand you run

Anderson connectors are a generic industry standard, not a brand-specific fitting — the same physical connector is used across Warn, Ramsey, Runva, Superwinch and most other winch brands. As long as the size and colour match your existing setup, our leads will connect correctly regardless of who made your winch.

Jump-starts and dual-battery setups

Winching itself needs serious amps, but jump-starting another vehicle or linking a dual-battery setup doesn't draw anywhere near that — which is exactly where our 175A Anderson-to-Anderson leads do their best work. Keep one in your recovery kit for a fast, clean jump-start without popping the bonnet or fumbling with jump clamps, or use it to link an auxiliary battery for winching support. Add a pull handle for quick, controlled disconnects, and a dust cover cap to keep the contacts protected between uses — both available below alongside our leads.

Crimped or soldered — which is better?

Crimped connections are the standard, recommended approach — a good hydraulic crimp creates a stronger, more reliable joint than solder for high-current DC connections, and it's what most manufacturers specify. Soldering can work but needs care to avoid a brittle joint, and isn't the default recommendation.

Will it hold up in mud, water and dust?

Anderson connectors aren't inherently weatherproof out of the box — a dust cover cap (like the ones we stock) helps protect the contacts between uses, and mounting the connector somewhere it isn't constantly submerged or caked in mud will get you the best working life out of it.

What if my winch needs more than 175A?

Get in touch and tell us your winch's rated pull — we'll give you an honest answer, even if that means a larger connector than we currently stock is the right call for your setup.

Is SB175 safe for heavy or sustained winch loads?

Only for light-duty pulls. See "Is SB175 enough for my winch?" above — if your winch is rated 9,000lb or more, you'll likely need a bigger connector than we currently stock.

Should connections be crimped or soldered?

Crimped, with the correct tool and die — that's the industry-standard, most reliable method for high-current DC connections.

Will these hold up in mud, water and dust?

The connector itself is rugged, but not sealed — a dust cover cap (which we stock) protects the contacts between uses, and keeping the connector out of standing water or thick mud will get you the longest working life.
